Thank you to everyone who helped at the Scottish Girls’ Championships this week. Conditions were not always easy but everyone coped admirably with balls going out of bounds, rain, mist, wet sheets of paper and temperamental iPads! It is a bit of a cliché to say that the event couldn't be run without the volunteers but it is truly the case. Scottish golf were very impressed by the number of volunteers we were able to muster and by how smoothly the event ran. Credit to the Greens’ Staff who had the course in excellent condition. The huge amount of water that fell drained away very quickly and did not interfere with play. It was worth all the recent hard work which has dramatically improved drainage.
Much of the golf was spectacular. A new course record for ladies was set in the Under-14 Championship by Ashleigh Critchley (Kettering Golf Club). She produced some phenomenal golf in the 36-hole championship to blow the rest of the field away. Ashleigh finished on 5-under par, securing an eight-shot victory over her closest challenger (most of us can only dream of this).
She posted 68 in dreadful weather, pipping Sally Watson‘s & Val Aitchison’s previous record of 69. Her card will shortly be on display in the clubhouse.
