This is a tournament that takes several rounds of qualification at the end of the season and the 3rd year in a row we have had the chance to play.
We had the lowest scratch team out of the 8 teams participating with our highest handicap golfer being 6. We were up against it because it is a handicapped event. That didn’t faze the boys, they’ve given lots of shots before and fought to the bitter end in all their matches throughout the season.
The team displayed some fantastic golf throughout the week, we had strength across the team and incredible camaraderie. The results over the week were 3 draws of 3-3 and a loss of 4-2 (against the finalists Llanwern).
The organisers told everyone that this year competitions is the closest they have seen in all of the years it’s been running. They have never seen all 8 teams having a chance to get into the final on the final qualifying game. Radyr Golf Club from Cardiff, who we played on the final day, have asked Murrayfield for an annual fixture between our two junior teams which I think shows how well the team came across to all the other clubs.
Each year the junior team give us something to really be proud of and they deserve the full credit for the way they conduct themselves and for their love of golf.
A huge thank you goes out to Jackie Thurlow as Team Manager and her husband Steve, who throughout the last 3 years have given an awful lot to the junior team and have kept them on the right track, winning 3 interclub titles and the summer league. They will be difficult to replace and we are keen to hear from anyone who would like to be involved in helping out with continuing to drive the Junior Section forward.

Stuart Thurlow (3), Arran Hastings (2), Robb Hawthorn (4), (Captain) Bobby Gibson (3), Patrick Lawrence (4), Sam Goldsmith (6), Mikey Hay-Smith (6).
